Shade Structures and Pergolas

shade structures pergolas design
Pergolas are not that much preferred from people just because of the popular belief that they don’t provide shade. A pergola is an archway that is usually built-in gardens and yards, and it is constructed by four posts holding on to a frame-like ceiling. The posts of the pergola usually are surrounded by climbing plants. Pergolas are not arbors. They are flat and open in structures and are attached to homes. Most people don’t use these types of shade structures, preferring a porch more but the main purpose of a pergola is to offer a covered, attach to the house, outside living space.

Pergolas are Classy
One of the reasons why I would suggest a pergola to a homeowner is simply for the fact that pergolas are generally classy and give a special and unique look to the house. Raising from the ground and being furnished in a classy way they can look awesome. If a pergola is maintained in the right way then the view of your house is going to improve. There are many different styles of pergolas from classic to modern. They help you put to use to your back yard and add living space to your home. You can relax in your pergola during the warmer months and even sleep there during a nice summer afternoon.

Holding Climbing Plants
Probably one of the major benefits aesthetically speaking about pergolas is the ability to hold climbing plants that can crawl not only on the posts but also on the framed ceiling of the pergola. These plants offer a unique look to the pergola and besides that, they can help with providing shade. A deck is only something that is mostly used to connect external outdoors and also for a living space, but a pergola can be used as a special place to find the inner peace that you need after a long and hard day of work.

They Provide Shade
The common belief among those that don’t prefer a pergola in their homes, is that pergolas don’t provide shade. While this is not entirely true, let’s take a moment to specify that pergolas, do provide half of the shade through their beams, depending on how thick the beams are. But if you want a full shade then you can cover the pergola from the top or you can use a climbing plant to cover the posts and the beams and make a nice, natural-looking ceiling for your pergola.

Affordable and Require Low Maintenance
Building a pergola is more than affordable since it doesn’t require much material and work to do so. In fact building, a pergola can be done within a day of work and still make sure that the result is going to look amazing. Pergolas don’t require a lot of maintenance since they are resistant to weather and are not used as much by the family members.
